Had a nice little run to end a wonderful day and needed to reflect on what I witnessed. Have you ever entered a large room filled with an overwhelming number of incredible leaders you've had the pleasure to work with over the course of a career? Well, that happened to me today. I had the privilege of attending Air Mobility Command's Change of Command ceremony at Scott Air Force Base, IL. The ceremony was exactly what you come to expect by tradition...a large crowd, numerous distinguished visitors and a parade field of Airmen in blue. But that wasn't even the best part. When I walked into the reception I was taken back by the shear number of talented leaders all gathered in one place to witness the same event. Many of which I've had the honor of serving with in my past and in my current job. I don't even recall if they served food at the reception as my time was consumed by catching up with these great Americans. I didn't get to see all my former commanders and mentors as many are still spread across the globe fighting the good fight, working on a second career or just soaking up some well-deserved retirement sun. How could someone have a bad day after spending some quality time with those you value and appreciate. You simply can't. And so I ended my day thinking of those leaders and wishing them nothing by continued success. Oh.....and I drank a damn good, hard, Root Beer. You gotta try "Not Your Father's Root Beer" from Small Town Brewery. Like this day, it surely won't disappoint.
