For many of you who have lived in and around the St. Louis area it's easy to dismiss just how cool this city really is. I was driving to the airport yesterday and caught a glimpse, as I often do crossing the Mississippi River, of the St. Louis Arch. No matter how many times I see this structure I have to stop and stare. It's amazing, iconic and represents our westward expansion many years ago. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the completion of the Arch. This is the year to head down riverside to check it out. Check out this link to see all the renovations going on around the Arch. That's not the only coolest thing to see in town.
Have you checked out the City Museum? Imagine if Dr. Seuss actually receive a permit to build a place to explore and play despite it being on the edge of a serious OSHA violation. Oh...and they have several places to eat and drink. I would strongly recommend you stay sober while making your way around this live dreamland. Kneepads and flashlights are a good idea.
f you're looking for a cool, temperate place to visit during the warmer days of Spring and Summer, check out Meramec Cavern in Stanton, MO (60 mins SW of the Arch). This place has everything, zip lines, caves, rivers, camping and an incredible history. The temperature stays a constant 60 degrees all year round and tours depart every 20-30 mins. Bring your camera and some good walking shoes.
