Pumpkin Ales are kind of a love/hate relationship. Every time I read a review it's clear to me there's simply no spectrum. I, for one, am a fan as it reminds me that Fall is on the way and there's a chill in the air. This year, more than most, I feel like the market has been flooded with Pumpkin Ales and concoctions. The local grocery store had an entire six-shelf display dedicated to the cucurbita. All I know is that I enjoy them and like trying all the different flavors. Yes, there are some I'd rather not have again, but for the most part they are pretty darn good. One thing I really like to do is add Apple Cider (beer-tail it) and rim the glass with some caramel or honey dipped in cinnamon. It just seems to give it that extra special deliciousness. So if you're looking for something different to get you into the Fall mood, try some of the many new Pumpkin beers on the market. There's bound to be one that won't disappoint. I just happen to be enjoying a once, very hard to find brew by Dogfish Head - Their newly labeled Punkin Ale.
