Unless you've been hiding under a rock on Tatooine, you probably know we're under 30 days until the release of Star Wars - The Force Awakens. I've elected to burn up some of that time playing the latest release of Star Wars Battlefront on my PS4 and boy it doesn't disappoint. There's also plenty of news of box office records being shattered from ticket pre-sales to both IMAX and general cinema houses.
My own personal excitement stems from all the thoughts, feelings and emotions I recall from my childhood having grown up with the original trilogy....the unedited version of course. It was the only film to have a direct effect on my wanting to someday fly airplanes and I've been blessed to fly two Millennium Falcons in their own right, the KC-135 Stratotanker and the Mighty C-17 Globemaster III. Both ideal for smuggling, out-running Corellian Starships and more than capable of making the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs. What's even more exciting is that I get to share this with my wife and especially my little guy. He's a bit annoyed over my excitement and joy of watching trailers & spoilers again and again, but he's grown to love the Star Wars environment (video games, toys and product) despite not seeing a single film released on the big screen. I'm not expecting the impact on his life to be the same as mine, but I'm thankful he'll have the opportunity to see it for himself and in the raw. I'm curious about his thoughts and what he'll take away from this historic release. It's no secret that this series has inspired millions and Episode VII is sure to leave its mark on millions more.
The remaining days ahead will certainly be a bit more crazy as the anxiousness of the release nears the final hours. I just hope that moviegoers walk away from this film a bit more in love with the kind of story-telling and practical effects that made the original trilogy so popular. I am anxious, I am excited and I am thrilled that this story continues on. December 18th will be here sooner that we think. Enjoy the movie and May the Force Be With You All....always!
